Our History

Founded in 1952, Baumer is a company that manufactures medical and hospital equipment and has been committed to seeking new solutions in the medical fields where it operates, with the quality and trust that our service providers demand.

Present in more than 4,000 hospitals and operating in 36 countries, the company develops and manufactures solutions for the medical field in a modern industrial park of over 6,000m², located in Mogi Mirim.

Honoring the past and focusing on the future, the company has been building a 70-year story of success. And it is precisely about the past, present, and future that we are ready to talk about from now on.

Baumer: How did it all begin?

The Baumer brand is known in the market, but many people do not know how it all started. After all, it has been decades of intense work, determination, resilience, and a commitment to the health of countless patients who use Baumer products.

It all began thanks to the love of Manoel Amaral Baumer and Luiza Salvari, a couple who united in 1950, hoping for the success of an auto parts company that Manoel co-owned, which manufactured automotive products.

What the couple did not expect was that in 1951, while Luiza was seven and a half months pregnant, she would be hit by a drunk truck driver.

Unfortunately, the accident resulted in the loss of the baby and the amputation of Luiza's leg due to the severity of the injuries.

In that moment of suffering and difficulty, Manoel realized that orthopedic doctors lacked proper equipment for treatment, except for Dr. Godoy Moreira, who had brought his equipment from Europe.

Baumer was born precisely in this context: when Manoel noticed the needs of doctors and his wife and decided to create solutions for both.

In 1952, Manoel Baumer began designing products better suited for Luiza: a walker, crutches, a wheelchair, a special bed, and physiotherapy equipment. Years later, in 1955, he founded Baumer.

As expected, Baumer began its journey as a company that innovated in the medical market by understanding the real needs of Luiza and the orthopedic doctors the couple interacted with.

After all, Baumer was created to meet the needs of both sides: the patient and the doctor.

In 1951, when Manoel recognized the need for advancements in the field, doctors used tools adapted from regular hardware stores.

Additionally, at that time, Brazil had very few professionals in the field, making it possible to personally know them and understand their needs.

This aspect positively contributed to the company's ability to develop materials compatible with the needs of many Brazilians seeking solutions for their treatments.

Over the years, as the market innovated, Baumer kept pace! Trade shows, events, and training sessions continue to enable this close connection with the medical community.

Innovation: The DNA of Baumer

From the beginning, Baumer has been a pioneering and innovative company. After all, Luiza's need was to reintegrate into society with quality of life.

Understanding this need, her husband focused on developing products such as wheelchairs, prosthetics, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy items, as well as walkers.

The company continued to grow through collaboration between doctors and craftsmen. At the time, the national market was dominated by significantly overpriced imported products.

Furthermore, many patients suffered from post-surgical infections due to poor hygiene conditions during procedures.

In 1960, Baumer partnered with Dr. João Azevedo Lage to develop orthopedic prosthetics for femurs. The Beyer-Lage entered the catalog.

On January 11, 1956, Baumer and his partner Octávio Santavicca formed a new partnership with Angelino Quinelato, creating QBS Industrial Ltda., focusing on the production of surgical instruments.

At that time, doctors did not believe in rehabilitation as we know it today. Developing rehabilitation parts for Luiza involved trial and error, the participation of many healthcare professionals, and, unfortunately, some pain for the patient.

However, the motivation to improve the well-being of those needing orthopedic products has always guided every piece manufactured by Baumer. This relentless pursuit has also resulted in innovative products and an ever-expanding catalog.

Original Baumer Products

Baumer was the first to launch a foldable wheelchair in the country in 1957. Before that, Brazilians were completely dependent on imported products.

Many other items were developed with national technology, innovating to meet the country's orthopedic demands.

In the field of physiotherapy, for example, Baumer launched dozens of products and prosthetics that improved people’s daily lives.

All products originally created by Baumer represent innovations and improvements designed to meet the demand of Brazilian and international audiences.

Baumer’s goal is to be a company that impacts lives and provides excellent results through its solutions.

This is why we have developed prosthetics for children and adolescents, understanding that they grow over time. We also deliver efficient prosthetics for obese patients and a series of other innovations that previously represented unmet market demands.

Over the years in the healthcare market, the Baumer team realized not only the need for more patient-centered solutions but also the demand for better hygiene and cleanliness in hospitals.

After all, when a patient needs to undergo surgery, the cleanliness of the facility significantly impacts their recovery.

It is crucial to prevent contamination to ensure the best possible recovery for patients.

Ensuring a more conducive environment for surgery and patient recovery minimizes the risk of infections and other issues caused by poor hygiene conditions.

Guaranteeing that hospitals can prevent infections and maintain safe conditions is one of Baumer’s operating principles, understanding that providing quality prosthetics alone is not enough.

If prosthetic placement is ineffective, the surgical environment is unclean, and rehabilitation is inadequate, patient health and quality of life will not be positively impacted as they could be.

This is why Baumer works in all these areas, focusing on cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, transport, and storage of hospital materials, surgical centers, patient monitoring equipment, orthopedic rehabilitation using conventional and non-conventional prosthetics, proper instruments for prosthetic placement, and bone regeneration for implants.

We began exporting to Chile, and today Baumer is a globally recognized and established company, thanks to the quality and reliability of every detail, from the industrial park, selection of raw materials, manufacturing process, product development, rigorous analyses and tests, to our team of over 500 highly skilled employees.

In addition to continuous investment in innovation, we have created and patented technologies that positively impact the lives of thousands of people, providing effective prosthetics and solutions that improve their health daily.
